Kurdistan minister calls for IOC support

VERONA, October 19, 2017 – Oil companies should continue to invest in Kurdistan, the region’s minister of natural resources told a press conference on Thursday.

Dr. Ashti Hawrami of the Kurdistan Regional Government told press in Verona, Italy, that the semi-autonomous region needed international support and continued investment in order to survive.

Top executives from Rosneft, Trafigura and Glencore are present in Verona and are expected to meet with Dr. Hawrami later today, FT reported.

“I plead with you not to forget Kurdistan,” the minister said. “The fight [against ISIS] is over, but our fight is there forever. When we talk about investments and projects, we must bear in mind… that investment cannot flourish if there is no security.”

“The economy can take a lead ahead of politics and force politicians to take decisions,” he added.
