Labour protest could threaten output: Exxon

ABUJA, September 4, 2018 – A blockade by former employees on ExxonMobil’s Nigeria facilities is jeopardising production, the super-major said on Monday.

The protest, over the firing of 860 local workers, began in mid-July with a blockade of company housing estates, airstrips, Lagos and Abuja Qua Iboe Terminal and the operational base in Akwa Ibom.

“Disruptions to these operations have the potential to significantly impact revenues,” Reuters quoted the statement as saying.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, the largest registered trade union for senior-level employees in the Nigerian oil and gas industry, supports the protest.
