Maersk, Rosneft hit by cyberattack
KIEV, June 27, 2017 – Maersk and Rosneft were among the companies to be hit by a cyberattack on Tuesday.
More than 80 companies, mainly in Russia and Ukraine, have been affected by the attack so far.
On Tuesday, Maersk reported that its internal systems were down. A spokesperson for the Danish company told Bloomberg the attack was impacting multiple sites, including an oil and gas producer and a port operator.
Meanwhile, Rosneft said in a statement that it had switched to a “backup system for managing production processes” to avoid “serious consequences” from the attack.
The apparent ransomware attack, dubbed Petya or Petrwrap, follows a pattern seen in the WannaCry attack that surfaced in May.
A Ukrainian power utility, a French manufacturer and the Kiev airport were also among the entities hit by the attack.
