McDermott wins BPTT Angelin work

PORT OF SPAIN, June 5, 2017 – McDermott International has won a lucrative contract associated with the recently sanctioned Angelin gasfield project in Trinidad and Tobago.

Awarded by BPTT, the terms of the contract stipulate that McDermott will perform engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) works associated with the project.

The EPCIC works, confirmed on Friday, involve the design, procurement, fabrication, transportation, installation and commissioning of a six-slot wellhead platform. Composed of a four-legged main pile jacket and a four-deck topside, the components weigh 900 tonnes and 1,200 tonnes respectively.

McDermott is also responsible for the construction of a 21-kilometre, 26-inch subsea pipeline with a design throughput of 17 mcm (600 mcf) per day.

Construction works will take place at the Altamira fabrication facility in Mexico, a subject of some contention in Trinidad and Tobago.

The country had hoped to reap the economic benefits from the local construction of the infrastructure. Citing time constraints, BPTT has opted to have the platform and pipeline constructed in Mexico. McDermott plans to utilise its DLV 2000 vessel to facilitate transport from Mexico to Trinidad and Tobago.

The forward motion of BPTT’s Angeline development is one of many actions that Trinidad and Tobago is taking to address the issue of gas shortages. Other efforts include the TROC development, which has come online, and the Cassia C Platform, expected in 2020. The latter being constructed by the Fluor Corporation.

The much-anticipated Angelin project was sanctioned on June 2, 2017.
