Mexico’s KMZ field restarts production

MEXICO CITY, August 31, 2021 – Pemex has restarted operations at the E-Ku-A2 platform on Ku-Maloob-Zaap field, Mexico’s state-run operator said on Monday.

The shallow-water asset stopped production due to a fire on August 22, 2021.

Pemex reported a loss of 1.6 million barrels.

Production has been restored at 421,000 bopd but is expected to ramp up. The Ku-Maloob-Zaap field has 207 producing wells that averaged 784,000 bopd in 2020, 46.5% of the company’s output.

Although there were losses, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that the country would still reach its target production of 1.8 million bpd.
