New success for BG off Tanzania

DAR ES SALAAM, September 3, 2014 – UK group BG has announced a successful second drill stem test from its Mzia-3 well in Block one, with flow rates reaching 2.86 mcm (101 mcf) of natural gas per day.

The flow was above the expected rate of 2.5 mcm (90 mcf) per day, partner company Ophir announced.

This positive result reinforces the feasibility of an LNG plant to be built in Lindi, Southern Tanzania that BG and Statoil, along with partners Pavillion, Ophir (with BG in block’s 1, 3 and 4) and ExxonMobil (with Statoil in block 2).

The final investment decision should however, not take place until 2016. Drilled in 1,800 meters of water in 2013, the Mzia-3 well tapped into a 56-meter net pay natural gas wall with Odfjell’s Deep-Sea Metro 1 rig.
