Nigeria contracts local operator for hydro asset

ABUJA, February 24, 2023 – Nigeria has chosen local energy entity Mainstream Energy Solution to operate the Zungeru hydro plant currently under development, the Bureau of Public Enterprises announced on Wednesday.
Under the, the company will operate and maintain the plant for USD 70 million per year for the next 30 years.
The USD 1.3-billion hydroelectric power plant located in Zungeru in the northwest of Niger state will have the capacity to produce 700 MW.
The facility is expected to begin operations by the end of March 2023.
Development of the asset is being funded by the Export–Import Bank of China.
