Kaduna refinery in Nigeria

Nigeria mulls Niger pipeline

ABUJA, November 28, 2016 – Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is reportedly studying the transport of oil from Niger via pipeline to the Kaduna refinery in an effort to ensure the security of supplies.

NNPC Group Managing Director Maikanti Bari allegedly made comments to that end at a meeting with refinery personnel on Sunday. “Due to challenges with the aged refinery and crude oil pipelines that have been breached […] the operations of the refinery have been epileptic,” was quoted as having said. As of November 2016, the capacity utilisation rate of the Kaduna refinery stood at 18.78%.

According to Bari, NNPC is studying a 1,000-kilometre pipeline from Agadem in Niger to Kaduna, a project that is reportedly being championed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
