Nigerian oil union joins general strike

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (Pengassan) has said it will join the general strike in the country, international media reported Thursday.

“We are to proceed on the action with immediate effect. However, those on critical and essential services are required to remain on their duty posts,” the union said in a statement cited by Reuters.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has urged consumers not to panic buy petroleum products.

Earlier this week, Pengassan and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers threatened to strike over a labour dispute with Chevron.
