Oil Search strikes gas in PNG

PORT MORESBY, June 7, 2018 – Well Kimu-2 in the PRL 8 licence in Papua New Guinea has encountered gas, operator Oil Search announced on Thursday.

 

A drill stem test flowed 980,000 cubic metres (34.5 mcf) per day through a 1-inch choke over a period of 72 hours, the company said in a statement. The well tested an earlier discovery in the Kimu-1 well.

“Kimu-2 will be plugged and abandoned as planned,” Oil Search added. “Evaluation of the well data acquired has now commenced and will be used to help assess options for the potential commercialisation of the Kimu Field.”
