Pemex CEO could head finance ministry: report

MEXICO CITY, November 27, 2017 – José Antonio Gonzalez Anaya, the head of Mexican NOC Pemex may leave his post to become Mexico’s next Minister of Finance and Public Credit, local media reported over the weekend.

Mexican daily El Economista and several sources close to the government have said that Gonzalez Anaya will be called in to replace current finance minister José Antonio Meade, who is expected to resign so that he can run for president under the Institutional Revolutionary Party.

Meade is scheduled to hold a press conference at 10:00am local time, at which point he is expected to announce his candidacy. However, according to Reuters, the minister’s spokesperson has said that he does not know of plans for resignation.

The papers did not provide details on who would replace Gonzalez Anaya as head of Pemex if he were appointed finance minister.

Mexico’s general election will be held on July 1, 2018.
