Pemex field to get $6.6-bln revamp

MEXICO CITY, March 23, 2018 – Pemex’s refurbishment plan for the Ek-Balam field has been approved by Mexican oil and gas regulators, international media reported Friday.

The NOC intends to invest USD 6.6 billion in a programme to boost the field’s production to 99,800 boepd by 2022. The revamp includes 30 new development wells and four injections wells, in addition to replacing nine old pipelines and rehabilitating a water injection plant. Moreover, new lines will be installed between Ek-Balam’s 12 platforms in 2020.

Located in the shallow-water Bay of Campeche, the mature Ek-Balam field has undergone several development schemes since it came on line in the early 1990s, including EOR programmes. The field currently produces around 34,000 boepd.
