Petrobras terminates Ensco contract

RIO DE JANEIRO, January 6, 2016 – Brazilian majority state-owned company Petrobras has terminated a rig contract with Ensco due to allegations of corruption, the rig services provider said Wednesday.

In 2008, the national oil company chartered a drillship from US drilling company Pride International, which was purchased by Ensco in 2011.

In a Monday statement, Petrobras claimed that Pride knew about “improper payments” made to a consultant. This money was then shared with Petrobras employees. However, Ensco has refuted these charges, claiming there was no evidence of wrongdoing.

According to Ensco, this move will not affect ongoing rig work with Petrobras under different contracts.
