Qatar calls for petchem complex bids
DOHA, May 15, 2018 – Qatar Petroleum (QP) is calling for bids from international firms to develop and operate a newbuild petrochemicals complex at the country’s Ras Laffan Industrial City.
The NOC announced the call on Tuesday, signalling its commitment to moving forward with hydrocarbons developments in the face of an ongoing economic embargo from its neighbours.
Upon its completion in 2025, the complex is slated to hold the Middle East’s largest ethane cracker, with a capacity of more than 1.6 million tonnes per year, QP said. The development will also include facilities for derivatives.
QP’s North Field expansion is expected to provide feedstock for the project, with additional ethane sourced from existing developments.
