Sempra to divest gas distribution business in Mexico
SAN DIEGO, April 1, 2025 – US player Sempra plans to divest its natural gas distribution business in Mexico and sell a minority interest in Sempra Infrastructure to simplify its portfolio and focus on growing its Texas and California utilities, the company said on Thursday.
Sempra Infrastructure is targeting the sale of Ecogas México (Ecogas), which holds three utility franchises and provides natural gas distribution service to Mexico’s Mexicali, Chihuahua and La Laguna-Durango regions. Ecogas is the fifth largest distribution network in Mexico. It has more than 5,000 kilometers of distribution pipelines serving natural gas to more than 600,000 residential, commercial and industrial consumers.

Additionally, Sempra intends to sell a minority stake in Sempra Infrastructure, which has seen its market value grow since previous divestitures.
These actions are part of a broader strategy to recycle capital and strengthen the company’s balance sheet while advancing long-term value creation initiatives for stakeholders.
“With today’s announcement, we believe we can successfully accomplish both objectives as we continue our work to drive enhanced long-term value for our shareholders,” chairman and CEO Jeffrey W. Martin said.
