Turkey and Oman sign gas trade deal

BOTAŞ Petroleum Pipeline Corporation and Oman LNG have signed a 10-year deal for LNG imports into Turkey, the Turkish state-owned petroleum trading company announced on Monday.

Under the deal, 1.4 billion tonnes per year of LNG will be supplied from Oman.

Trade is expected to begin in 2025.

The move is part of Turkey’s plans to become a gas trading hub for Europe.

Oman LNG has been actively upping gas production and signed several LNG trade deals in the last few months.

Earlier in January, the company signed an agreement with Thailand’s PTT Global LNG and TotalEnergies for the delivery of 1.6 million tonnes per year of LNG.

Also in January, Oman LNG signed a 10-year term sheet with Shell International Trading Middle East for the offtake of 800,000 tonnes of LNG per year.

The Omani LNG player also signed long-term agreements in late December with Japanese corporations for the supply of 2.35 million tonnes of gas per year.

All new gas trade deals are expected to begin delivery in 2025.
