McDermott wins FEED contract for Mozambique’s Rovuma LNG
MAPUTO, October 2, 2024 – McDermott, along with partners Saipem and CPECC, has won a front-end engineering design contract for Mozambique’s Rovuma LNG project, the US company announced on Monday.
Rovuma LNG is a planned 18-million-tonne-per-year facility set to be built in the northern province of Cabo Delgado. It will be fed by gas produced from the Area 4 licence in the offshore Rovuma Basin.
Project leader ExxonMobil expects to reach an FID on the development by the end of 2024 after security issues forced several years of delays.

The contract scope includes the modular design of a greenfield LNG production facility in Afungi, all associated gas pre-treatment units and the utilities and offsite systems to support the LNG production.
The consortium will also provide the engineering, procurement and construction proposal.
“LNG helps shape an entirely new era of energy solutions and McDermott plays a significant role in this global shift with more than 60 years of LNG experience,” said Rob Shaul, senior vice-president of McDermott’s Low Carbon Solutions business.
“McDermott is well established in Mozambique and can apply this knowledge and experience to continue the country’s industrial, social and economic development.”
