Construction work at the Afungi site has restarted with over 4,000 workers mobilised, including more than 3,000 Mozambicans. The project currently 40% complete. Contracts worth more than USD 4 billion are expected to be awarded to local companies, and up to 7,000 Mozambicans will be employed during construction.
Mozambique LNG also announced the continuation of a USD 200-million social development programme launched in 2023, which has so far supported 7,000 farmers and fishermen and created over 8,000 jobs in Cabo Delgado province.
“The full restart of project activities marks a major milestone for Mozambique LNG and the country,” TotalEnergies chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné said. “We are now working together to make this project a great success for the people of Mozambique.”
President Daniel Chapo of Mozambique said, “The resumption of the project represents a significant milestone for the national economy and reaffirms the confidence of international partners in Mozambique’s energy, institutional and human potential.”
