Egypt awards seven new oil and gas blocks

CAIRO, June 19, 2025 – Egypt has awarded seven onshore oil and gas exploration blocks under an EGPC tender, Petroleum Today Magazine reported on Thursday.

The block awards foresee the drilling of at least 17 wells.

Cheiron Petroleum Corporation was awarded the North Sitra and East Sidi Barani blocks and will drill four exploration wells. Apache Corporation received West Kanayis-K to support ongoing developments in the Western Desert. Pharos Energy secured South Abu Sennan, committing to three wells. IPR Energy Group will drill three wells at South Wadi El Rayan. A consortium of NPC and GHP will target mature fields G and HNW, planning seven wells to boost production.

In addition, four offshore blocks in the Mediterranean will soon be awarded under EGAS, with new bidding opportunities open on the Egypt Upstream Gateway. These include undeveloped Mediterranean offshore fields and new concessions in the Western Desert and Gulf of Suez. The bid round closes on July 2, 2025.

Cheiron Petroleum Corporation is an Egypt-focused upstream company involved in the development and production of hydrocarbons. It specialises in mature field rehabilitation, brownfield development and operates both onshore and offshore assets across the country.

Apache Corporation is a US-based oil and gas exploration and production company with a longstanding presence in Egypt’s Western Desert. Pharos Energy is a UK-headquartered independent energy company with operations in Egypt and Vietnam. In Egypt, it is focused on the El Fayum and North Beni Suef concessions, where it is working to increase production and reserves through infill drilling and seismic interpretation.

IPR Energy Group is a US-based integrated oil and gas company with extensive operations in Egypt. It specialises in reservoir management, field redevelopment and waterflooding techniques, and partners with the Egyptian government on various mature and marginal field developments.
