BP’s $2-billion Indonesia gas project greenlit

JAKARTA, August 20, 2021 – Indonesia’s SKK Migas has approved BP’s plans for the next phase of the Tangguh LNG project, the government agency said on Wednesday.

The development includes producing another 43.1 bcm (1.52 tcf) of gas from the Ubadari field and the Vorwata enhanced gas recovery project.

BP intends to use carbon capture, utilisation and storage technology to reduce carbon emissions associated with the Tangguh project by 45%, with captured carbon used to support the government’s enhanced gas recovery campaign.

Tangguh LNG began production in 2009 and first expansion plans were approved in 2016. BP’s contract finishes in 2035.
