USA

WASHINGTON D.C., December 15, 2023 – The US government has approved funding of up to USD 890 million for CCS projects in Texas, California and North Dakota, Reuters reported on Thursday.

Of the upcoming funding, the Milton Young lignite coal plant in North Dakota will receive USD 350 million.

Other developments in line to receive funding include the Baytown Energy Center natural gas plant in Texas and the Sutter Energy Center gas plant in Yurba City, California.

According to the USA’s Energy Department, CCS projects in the country have the potential to cut carbon dioxide emissions by around 7.75 million tonnes per year.

There are currently 15 CCS facilities operating in the USA that have the capacity to capture only 0.4% of the country’s carbon dioxide emissions per year.
