CNOOC strikes gas offshore the UK

HONG KONG, January 29, 2019 – CNOOC Limited, a subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, has discovered gas in the UK portion of the North Sea, the Chinese company announced on Tuesday.

 

The Glengorm exploration well in licence P2215 encountered 37.6 metres of net pay, the company statement added. In a separate press release, partner Total estimated the recoverable resources at the prospect at 250 million boe. CNOOC Limited holds a 50% operating stake in the licence, while Total holds 25% and Euroil holds the remaining 25%.

“Glengorm discovery demonstrates the great exploration potential of License P2215,” Xie Yuhong, CNOOC Limited’s executive vice-president, said. “We are looking forward to further appraisal.”

The news came as the company also approved the engineering development plan for the Weizhou 12‐8 East development offshore China, Upstream Online reported.
