Energean to explore CCS in Egypt
CAIRO, February 17, 2023 – Energean has signed an MoU with Shell Egypt to explore carbon capture and storage options for a depleted field in Egypt, the UK-based E&P player announced on Thursday.
The goal is to decarbonise Shell’s LNG terminal in Idku.
Carbon will be stored in a depleted reservoir on the offshore Abu Qir Block on the Mediterranean coast operated by Energean.
The endeavour will mirror Energean’s CCS design on the Prinos oilfield in Greece.
“CCS in Egypt can only be developed in long term partnerships with industries willing to “green” their products. We are excited to work with Shell as such a credible and committed partner,” said Nicolas Kacharov, CEO of Energean International and country manager of Egypt.
