EU delays oilfield services tie-up
BRUSSELS, March 21, 2016 – EU antitrust regulators have halted work on their investigation into the Halliburton takeover of Baker Hughes for a second time, citing the companies’ failure to provide information.
Announced on Monday, the decision comes several weeks after the European Commission first paused its inquiry into the proposed USD 35-billion merger between the oilfield services giants.
Commenting on the investigation, Commission spokesperson Ricardo Cardoso said “once the missing information is supplies by the parties, the clock is re-started and the deadline for the Commission’s decision is then adjusted accordingly.”
