Nigeria LNG continues force majeure due to flooding

ABUJA, August 11, 2023 – Nigeria’s LNG facility on Bonny Island will continue its force majeure declared in October 2022 due to flooding disrupting supply, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
According to sources, the project is still met with delays due to high floodwater levels in the Nigerian Delta region and the occasional acts of sabotage and vandalism on pipelines necessary for feedstock.
Operator Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) has yet to cancel cargoes despite the delay.
Most shipments are set to be delivered to European offtakers, including Portuguese integrated energy player Galp and Spanish multinational utility Endesa.
“NLNG continues to collaborate with its customers to minimise the impact of the consequent gas supply shortage,” said Andy Odeh, external relations general manager of Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas.
According to the Statistical Review of World Energy published in June 2023, Nigeria’s gas production stood at an average of 40.4 bcm (1.43 tcf) in 2022.
Total LNG exports from the nation experienced a decrease in the same year to 19.6 bcm (692 bcf).
