NNPC begins exploration in Nasarawa

LAGOS, October 27, 2017 – The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has begun exploration in the Benue Trough, the NOC announced Thursday.

The firm’s upstream arm Integrated Data Services, or IDSL, has begun gathering seismic data on the Benue Trough from the Keana area.

“I am convinced that the success of the results from IDSL’s seismic data acquisition will lead to the drilling of exploration wells in the area, which hopefully, would launch Nasarawa state into the league of oil-producing states in the country,” said NNPC group managing director Maikanti Baru.

The NOC has been working to increase inland exploration. Earlier in the month, it announced plans to open seven inland basins to exploration. In January 2017, NNPC said it would partner with Schlumberger to explore hydrocarbons reserves in the Chad Basin and other inland areas.
