Total eyes solar-powered LNG plant in Oman
PARIS, March 5, 2021 – Total may build a 1-million-tonne-per-year solar-powered LNG plant in Oman, CEO Patrick Pouyanné said earlier this week.
Pouyanné told participants of the CERAWeek online conference on Wednesday that the plant would be powered by electricity from nearby solar farms, reducing the greenhouse gases associated with producing LNG.
The chief executive also addressed the rise of hydrogen, saying “very large projects” are needed to bring its cost down and comparing it to “LNG 40 years ago.”
CERAWeek is an annual gathering of global CEOs and ministers from the world of energy and utilities.
