Qatar backs off from cutting gas supplies

DOHA, June 19, 2017 – While the current crisis with its neighbours and their backers would be a reason trigger a force majeure clause in the agreement governing the Dolphin gas pipeline, Qatar will not cut supplies to the UAE.

In statements on Sunday, Qatar Petroleum Chief Executive Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said, “the siege we have today is a force majeure and we could close the gas pipeline to the UAE,” adding he did not want to “harm” the “UAE and the people of the UAE.” Al Kaabi did not rule out a shutdown altogether.

As part of the Dolphin Gas Project, Qatar transports gas to the UAE and Oman via subsea pipelines.
