Tethys Oil drills successful exploration well in Oman

MUSCAT, January 9, 2024 – Tethys Oil has successfully drilled the Menna-1 exploration well in preparation for the field development plan of Block 56 in Oman, the Swedish oil and gas company announced on Monday.

The well was drilled to a total depth of 1,600 metres, with finds recorded in the Al Khlata, Karim and Birba formations.

The Menna prospect is located around 30 kilometres southwest of the previous Al Jumd discovery on the Eastern Plank trend near Block 6’s productive Karim Small fields.

Additionally, the company is planning to undergo testing of the Sarha-3 well on the Block 56 that was previously drilled in 2022 to depths of 1,200 metres.

Full data and inventory is expected to be available in Q1 2024.

“We are very pleased to have safely completed the exploration drilling on the Menna prospect and that the well encountered oil in all three zones,” said Magnus Nordin, managing director of Tethys Oil.
