Etu Energias

Etu Energias (formerly Somoil) is the largest private Angolan oil company and plays a pivotal role in the country’s energy landscape. Since 2021, the company has more than doubled its operated production, reflecting steady growth in both mature and new upstream assets. Etu Energias’ vision is to become an international player in mature fields and deepwater operations, while also positioning itself as a key driver of Angola’s energy transition.

Established in 2000, the company spent its first two decades building a strong asset base and a lean business model. Today, Etu Energias operates several key upstream blocks both offshore and onshore:

Block 2/05 (offshore, 30% WI): This block contains 18 oilfields with combined reserves exceeding 500 million barrels. Seventeen fields are developed, while one remains undeveloped. Etu Energias continues to invest in production optimization and recovery enhancement.
Blocks FS and FST (onshore, 31% WI): These onshore assets have seen extensive seismic surveying and development activity, with around 1,000 wells drilled to date.
Block CON-1 (onshore, 40% WI): Exploration work is underway as part of the company’s long-term asset development strategy.
Block CON-4 (onshore): Acquired under a risk-service contract, this block further expands the company’s operated footprint.

Downstream: Etu Energias is active in downstream distribution and fuel marketing, currently operating multiple service stations in Angola and pursuing broader network expansion. The company has also announced plans to develop a lubricants manufacturing facility to strengthen its downstream portfolio.

Energy transition and operational efficiency: Etu Energias has participated in a number of small-scale solar energy projects and is implementing a sustained capex programme in its oilfields. This includes artificial lift upgrades, new drilling and workovers using coiled tubing, and several greenfield developments. Under its EMAGRECE initiative (Portuguese for “losing weight”), the company is pursuing cost efficiency through contract renegotiation and strategic supplier collaboration, fostering long-term partnerships across the value chain.
