Rosneft is the largest public oil and gas company in the world. It operates across the oil and gas provinces of Russia and spearheads the green agenda among Russian energy and fuel companies. Its history traces back to the late-19th century, while the company’s assets largely developed during the Soviet period.

Today, the company focuses on hydrocarbons exploration, oil production, gas and gas condensate production, offshore field development, feedstock processing, and the trading of oil, gas, and refined products.

Rosneft’s activities can be broadly divided into two categories:

  • Exploration and production: Onshore and offshore exploration, oil and gas production, drilling and development
  • Processing and marketing: Oil refining, gas processing, petrochemical production, catalyst production, lubricant production, sales and marketing of gas and petrol products, including motor fuel retail

Rosneft’s main tasks are to ensure the energy security of Russia, the effective execution of its projects and the development of its resources in line with the most stringent ecological standards.

Rosneft further aims to maintain its replacement level of at least 100%, efficient brownfield production and growth through new projects, new technologies, world-standard managerial practices, the monetisation of gas reserves, refining and product sales. The company also has strategic goals to reach net zero by 2050 in terms of Scopes I and II emissions and has a number of short- and mid-term targets to effectively achieve this aim.
